A team from Mahintana conducted an orientation on bamboo propagation to barangay officials and community leaders in Barangay Tinumigues, Lambayong Sultan Kudarat on April 01, 2014 , to encourage local communities to engage in viable economic activities at the same time contribute in reducing impacts of flooding and soil erosion. Tinumigues is among the barangays in the region identified as flood-prone by MGB-XII . Punong Barangay Wenona Lim recounted incidents when the community experiences flooding brought about by torrential rains , considering that Lambayong is generally flat and the Lambayong River overflows due to siltation.
MFI Executive Director Martiniano L. Magdolot shared the environmental and economic benefits that the community can get from bamboo propagation and nursery establishment. To further stress the viability of bamboo propagation, ReVIVE Project Officer Nasser A. Adam gave a lecture on the varieties of bamboo and the techniques of growing it. The MFI RESOURCEGov Project Team was welcomed by Tinumigues barangay officials and constituents headed by PB Wenonah Lim and Engr. Sherwin de Guzman of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of LGU Lambayong.
