March 20, 2018 marks the commencement of construction of the Bamboo Model House Project. The project is funded by Dole Philippines, Inc. implemented by Mahintana Foundation, Inc. in partnership with LGU-Polomolok, BLGU-Cannery, Dolefil Kaugnay, LEAD Trio. It will be constructed by Unified Engineering Workers Multi-Purpose Cooperative together with the Palkan Bamboo Association. This project aims to help establish a sustainable eco-tourism site in Polomolok by utilizing indigenous materials and maximizing the locals’ skills and resources.
Hon. Antonio Octavio, Cannery Brgy. Capt. gave the welcome remarks. He is grateful that Brgy. Cannery was chosen as the location of the bamboo house. Then, Ms. Liza D. Hora of Mahintana presented the project background followed by the messages of support from Mr. Francis R. Gales, LEAD.PH President and Kaugnay Representative and Mr. Eronio P. Muno, MPDO and LGU representative.
Lastly, the groundbreaking rites were conducted. The Brgy. Kagawads participated in the lowering of the bamboo house design capsule followed by the dumping of cement on the hole participated by all stakeholders.
