Open Data Kit (ODK) Orientation to PPDO South Cotabato

The RESOURCEGov (phase 2) Project team conducted Open Data Kit (ODK) Orientation to the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) of South Cotabato on January 23, 2018 at PPDO Hall, Koronadal City. The orientation- workshop’s goal is for PPDO to know how to use the system in data collection and monitoring for their projects.  There were 15 participants from PPDO and seven (7) personnel from Mahintana who were present in the event.

Prior to the program, the team visited the offices of DILG 12 Regional Director Reynaldo M. Bungubung and ARD Lailyn A.Ortiz. The RD proposed that RESOURCEGov2 team present the project during the DILG Regional Directors’ Meeting to replicate the use of ODK/LITS/Qlik to other cities and municipalities without existing monitoring, data collection and tax mapping systems.

PPDO Division Chief Eleazar Abellera provided the welcome address and Project Manager (PM) Roel Ian P. Blanker presented the project overview. The 1st part of the workshop is the web server registration by creating an account on KoboToolbox using their departments’ email addresses. The participants were able to download from Play Store and install the Kobo Collect app to their Android mobile phones and tablets, even iPhones (downloaded app from App Store). Moreover, they were able to generate mock forms, deploy to the server and get the blank forms to be answered using the app.

In the afternoon, the workshop is generation of the actual project monitoring forms used by each department. They were able to discover some ways how to use the new features of the Kobo Toolbox and how to simplify the uploading of data in the server. At the end of the day, there were two (2) number of forms created for project monitoring of Research, Evaluation and Monitoring Division and convergence pf Special Projects Division.

The PPDO Division Chief closed the program by thanking the team saying that the ODK will be very beneficial for them in efficiently conducting planning activities in PPDO, improve gathering of data and monitoring of project updates.
