On November 21, 2017, Mahintana Foundation through its RESOURCEGov Phase 2 Project facilitated the Financial Systems Installation Training together with the key staff and finance team of MINCODE and its partner networks (Kasilak Development Foundation, PhilDHRRA, Agri-Aqua Development Coalition-Mindanao). The training was intended to orient the project team on EU’s standards on financial recording, the basic documentation requirements during trainings and other activities and the use of Quickbooks which is a user-friendly system giving users access to basic accounting and financial tracking tools.
Ms. Wilma Jumilla, MFI Accountant, presented the contractual framework of the project stipulating the key responsibilities of the main parties in the project implementation with Mahintana as directly responsible for the implementation and acts as the intermediary for all the communication to the European Union (EU) while MINCODE is jointly responsible for complying with any obligation binding from the Contract. Moreover, she discussed in detail the modules based on EU’s Financial tool kit providing guidelines for partners to follow in complying with the basic standards/requirements on filing and record keeping as well as the general accounting procedures.
Meanwhile, Ms. Grace Miguel, MFI Project Bookkeeper, presented visuals of actual forms for better appreciation and to ensure that the participants can easily comprehend and apply the general accepted record keeping standards. She also demonstrated the step-by-step accounting tasks that can be done using Quickbooks and explained how the system can help make the complicated task of accounting easier when used in its full potential. Afterwards, she assisted the MINCODE team in the installation and management of the system.
At the end of the training, the participants had a common understanding and gained knowledge on the contractual, financial and operational systems and policies of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to the Philippines, as the Project Funding Donor.
