The PEACE project together with the Datalbob Brgy. Council and members of the community in coordination with the Sumbakil Multi-Purpose Cooperative & Mahintana Foundation Inc. joined hands in formulating its first Barangay Development Plan (BDP). Their aim was for the enhancement of community participation in local governance and development process. A total of 123 participants in attendance composed of the members of the barangay council, sitio leaders, women’s group, tribal leaders, education sector, BNS, and BHWs took part in the 3-day workshop held last September 28-30, 2009.
Highlights of the workshop were the creation of vision statement “Maunlad na Barangay na binubuo ng masayang Pamilya na nagkakaisa sa Layunin at Mithiin” and mission statement “Linangin at paunlarin ang kabuhayan, kultura, kapaligiran, malusog na pangangatawan para sa kinabukasan natin at ng susunod na henerasyon” as stated in Tagalog dialect. The 5-year Barangay Development Plan (BDP) for 2010-2014 was also formulated through the effort of the participants and resource person. Representative coming from PPDO shared the Provincial Development Thrust of South Cotabato to the community where they can anchor their direction in formulating the BDP. Moreover, activities conducted include SLEs, S.W.O.T analysis, and community planning to facilitate smooth process flow and convey ideas of the participants in the workshop.
Ms. Dayluz Herezo, Training Officer of Mahintana Foundation, Inc., served as the resource person together with the Provincial Planning Development Office (PPDO) represented by Eugene Tumilap-Project Development Officer (PDO-II) and Ness Villarias-Project Development Assistant (PD-Asst.), members of Sumbakil Barangay Council and officers of Sumbakil Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SMPC) also contributed to the success of the workshop. Sumbakil-BC led by Barangay Captain Datu Asgar Mangelin also shared their experience in BDP formulation and gave encouragement on the importance of BDP. Mr. Jobe Tubigon-Project Manager of HEAL project also provided comments to further improve the output.
