The Mahintana-ReVIVE Project, funded by the Lutheran World Relief, facilitated the one-day Training-Workshop on Solid Waste Management targeting the household members of the project in 13 barangays. The training also gained support from the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO) South Cotabato, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Polomolok, who shared their knowledge and expertise. Ms. Nencita Acain, Sr. EMS/Acting Chief, EM Division, of PEMO tackled the key points of Republic Act 9003 known as “The Ecological Solid Waste Management Act 0f 2000”. This law articulates the four classification of wastes, (a.) compostable, (b.) recyclables, (c.) residuals/ non- recyclables and (d.) special wastes. She also mentioned some prohibited acts under Republic Act 9003 such as littering, dumping in public places, open burning of solid wastes and burying of bio and non-bio wastes. Mr. Alfredo Superales from PEMO facilitated the workshop on segregating solid wastes based on four classifications. On the other hand, Mr. Reynaldo Fabrigar, also from PEMO team, gave insights on Ethics and Values Enhancement stressing out that any desired changes in the community would start on one’s behavior. He also emphasized that every right bestowed has a corresponding responsibility.
