Key officials and personnel from the Local Government of Malapatan, along with representatives of civil society organizations came up with strategic activities geared towards the implementation of a robust revenue generation and tax collection program after undergoing a Training-Workshop on Efficiency on tax Collection and Revenue Generation (using GIS-based tax mapping). The training held on June 24-26 at the East Asia Royale Hotel in General Santos City was facilitated by the Sarangani Province Empowerment and Community Transformation Forum (SPECTRUM) which co-implements the EU-funded RESOURCEGov Project in Malapatan and Maasim, Sarangani Province. Inputs for the Training-Workshop were shared by Mr. Jobe C. Tubigon- RESOURCEGov Project Manager and Engr. Danny Pelias, Project Development Officer under the MPDO of LGU Polomolok who introduced the Open Data Kit GIS-based mapping which is being implemented in Polomolok. The participants were able to identify the following strategies: 1. Invite both domestic and foreign investors, 2. Conduct an inventory of the taxable products of Malapatan and improve identify those which are potentials for enhancement, 3. Explore other Tourist spots anchored on the fact that tourism generates income and revenues, 4. develop the fisheries, boat landing and fish culture industries as these are sources of revenues 5. Intensify Information, Education and Communication efforts to convey the importance of religiously and correctly paying taxes, 6. lobby for the creation of an Economic Enterprise Office which will directly implement various projects and activities to raise local income.
