On December 1-2, 2016, Mahintana Foundation, Inc. conducted its Annual Review and Planning Workshop at Park Inn by Radisson Davao, Davao City attended by the staff and management of the organization. The main purpose of the activity was to develop and document the 5-year strategic development plan (2018-2022) which will outline the overall direction and goals of the organization.
The opening remarks by Mr. Martiniano Magdolot, MFI Executive Director, included a preview of the activity’s itinerary and a message of encouragement. The staff were encouraged to actively participate and to develop their reasoning and/or analytical skills to strengthen the organization’s programs and projects and for the realization of the strategic plan.
The rationale of the activity was discussed by Ms. Margie Managuit, Health Plus Program Manager. She also presented Mahintana’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) identified by the staff to give direction in developing the ultimate focus of the organization. The staff engaged themselves in the process and brainstormed on the internal and external factors that influences the performance of the organization. Many individual ideas were generated and were later consolidated which led to the finalization of the SWOT analysis.
Meanwhile, Mr. Magdolot introduced the basic concepts and processes of developing the strategic plan and presented the historical performance/experiences/milestones of the organization. In his presentation, he also discussed and defined the components of the basic logical model for determining specific initiatives, programs and projects reflective upon the organization’s goals.
The staff, divided into 4 groups according to assigned program of assistance (Institution Building & Governance, Basic Social Services, Environmental Program, Social Enterprise), worked overnight in identifying strategic directions and priorities. Their outputs were presented to the group the next day. It was thoroughly reviewed and critiqued by the management of MFI. Most of the comments were about refinement and clearly stating what the organization wants to achieve in the succeeding years. The identified strategic directions will form the basis for visioning and other processes leading to strategy formulation.
Following the presentations per group was the discussion of the strategy plan matrix by Mr. Jobe Tubigon, MFI Operations Manager. Thereafter, the staff was divided again into 4 groups (per program of assistance) and each were tasked to discuss and formulate action plans. The staff generated, collaboratively, result oriented objectives indicative to be achieved in the period of five years. For each of the objective, activities and verifiable indicators were developed and presented to the group for comments and suggestions.
The workshop was officially closed by Mr. Martiniano Magdolot and in his message, he thanked the staff for their inputs and contributions made and emphasized on the importance of having focused goals and objectives to ensure successful implementation of the plan.
