Mahintana Foundation, Inc. facilitated and participated in the Pineapple Fiber Classification and Grading Training Activities on October 5-7, 2021 at Polo Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Brgy. Polo, Polomolok, South Cotabato .Mr. Renato A. Amistad of the Philippines Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) was the invited resource-person for this training. Participants include personnel from Dole Philippines Inc., Polo Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative, and Landan People’s Multi-Purpose Cooperative. The training intends participants to have knowledge on how to properly classify and identify pineapple fibers to be able to meet market requirements.
Mr. Amistad oriented the participants of the current Philippine National Standard (PNS) for Pineapple Fiber, common terms used in pineapple fiber production, types of pineapple fiber, how fiber is classified, actual classification of pineapple fibers, and proper operation, adjustment, and maintenance of decorticating machines.
Part of the 2-day training is the Pineapple Fiber Classifier Exam, facilitated by PhilFIDA. Passers will be granted a Fiber Classifier License from PhilFIDA. 10 participants successfully passed the exam and will be given a license. The awarding of certificates to followed for their completion of the training. Polo Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative extended their gratitude to PhilFIDA for conducting the training, and to Dole Philippines, Inc. and Mahintana Foundation, Inc. for the assistance and partnership on the Pineapple Fiber Project.
