A Tree Growing Activity took place at Brgy. Silway 8 Riverbank on March 18, 2017 as part of the Youth for the Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) activities of Silway 8 National High School, Polomolok, S.C. The activity is also an integrated approach of the Ridge-to-Reef program to help reverse the degradation of identified upland, lowland and coastal areas.
Participants were oriented by Mr. Roel Ian Blanker, MFI Project Coordinator, in the proper way of planting to ensure high survival rate of planted trees. He also briefly discussed the impacts of grazing heavy livestock such as cattle which can destruct soil structure and the vegetation or plants in the area. At least 130 students and teachers joined in the effort to plant 200 assorted fruit and forest trees in the planting site identified by the Barangay.
